Trap guns in Sri Lanka

The human, economic and environmental impacts.

Summary

In Sri Lanka, the use of home-made weapons known as trap guns for crop protection and poaching is a significant cause of insecurity, indiscriminately threatening human life and development.

This publication highlights the human, economic and environmental impacts of trap gun use, the weak enforcement of laws controlling these illicit small arms, and calls for a co-ordinated solution to the trap gun problem.
