The UK is one of the world's biggest arms exporters. We work to ensure that the UK's arms export rules are effective and rigorous.
We monitor and assess UK arms transfer licensing to strengthen controls and make decision-making on arms sales more open.

Much of our recent work focuses on the Government's review of its arms export legislation, the Export Control Act (2002).
The review started in June 2007 and is an opportunity to close loopholes in the existing laws. These include inadequate controls on arms brokering and trafficking, licensed production and the lack of clear and effective monitoring of end-use.
As part of the UK Working Group on Arms (UKWG), Saferworld is taking part in this review.
