Arms transfer controls in Europe

Host to many of the world's largest arms exporters, it is vital that Europe has effective arms transfer controls.

What we do

With partners we:

work for more effective and transparent controls on arms transfers in European Union countries
work with new member states and neighbouring countries to promote arms controls that comply with EU standards
analyse the arms transfer control regimes in states and territories across Europe
encourage the adoption of better accountability systems, including parliamentary scrutiny of export licences and annual arms export reports

We work with European governments, parliamentarians and non-governmental organisations to strengthen regulation of the European arms trade by:

research
developing ways to strengthen the European Union’s regional agreement on arms exports - the EU Code of Conduct on Arms Exports
raising awareness through seminars and policy roundtables with governments and civil society
